What Time Is Jumu’ah at Bali’s Main Tourist-Area Mosques?
Jumu’ah in Bali is held at Dhuhr, which falls between roughly 12:15 and 12:40 WITA depending on the season, with the khutbah starting shortly after the adhan and the full service normally finished within 45 minutes. As of 2026, the three most practical mosques for travellers are Masjid Ar-Raudhah in Seminyak, Masjid An-Nur in Sanur, and Masjid Agung Ibnu Batutah at the Puja Mandala complex in Nusa Dua. Times drift by a few minutes across the year, so confirm the exact khutbah start with your hotel or driver on the morning itself.
| Mosque | Area | Typical khutbah window (WITA) | Traveller notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Masjid Ar-Raudhah | Seminyak | Approx. 12:15–12:35 | Handiest for Seminyak, Legian and Canggu stays; parking fills fast, so arrive early |
| Masjid An-Nur | Sanur | Approx. 12:15–12:35 | Calmer congregation, easy access from Sanur beachfront hotels |
| Masjid Agung Ibnu Batutah | Puja Mandala, Nusa Dua | Approx. 12:15–12:35 | The largest of the three with an international congregation; in peak season arrive 20–30 minutes before the khutbah for a place inside |
One useful phrase: locally, Friday prayer is called Salat Jumat. A tourist asking hotel staff for the nearest “Jumat prayer” will be understood immediately, and prayer-time boards at each mosque list Friday times alongside the daily schedule. For prayer rooms beyond these three mosques, see our full Bali mosques and prayer guide.
What Language Is the Khutbah In, and What Should You Wear?
At all three mosques the khutbah is delivered in Bahasa Indonesia, framed by the Arabic elements every Muslim will recognise: the opening praises, Qur’anic recitation, and the closing du’a of the second khutbah. The salat itself is in Arabic, so visitors who speak no Indonesian can follow the entire service without difficulty. Ibnu Batutah in Nusa Dua regularly hosts Gulf, Malaysian and European worshippers, so foreign guests are a familiar sight rather than a novelty.
Etiquette is straightforward:
- Dress: long trousers or a sarong and covered shoulders for men; women who wish to attend should bring a prayer covering (mukena or abaya with hijab).
- Arrival: come 20–30 minutes early, take wudhu on site (all three mosques have ablution facilities), and switch your phone to silent.
- Shoes: leave them on the racks provided; a small bag for valuables is sensible on busy Fridays.
- After prayer: greetings and photos in the courtyard are welcome; inside the prayer hall, keep cameras away.
How Far Is Each Mosque from Your Resort, and How Does a Muslim Driver Time Fridays?
Friday midday traffic in South Bali is heavier than usual, so treat these door-to-door estimates as fair-weather figures and add a buffer:
- Seminyak / Legian hotels → Ar-Raudhah: about 5–15 minutes; from Canggu allow 20–35 minutes.
- Sanur hotels → An-Nur: about 5–10 minutes; from Ubud allow 45–60 minutes.
- Nusa Dua resorts → Ibnu Batutah: about 5–10 minutes; from Jimbaran or Uluwatu allow 15–35 minutes. Guests at the halal-friendly resorts in Nusa Dua have the easiest Friday of all.
This is exactly why our Muslim drivers plan Fridays differently from other days. The morning itinerary is arranged so the car is within 15 minutes of your chosen mosque by around 11:45, the driver joins the congregation alongside male guests while accompanying family members wait comfortably, and lunch afterwards is booked at a verified halal restaurant nearby. The prayer stop is built into the day, never squeezed around it — the same principle behind every one of our halal trip packages in Bali.
